Well it's been a busy and exciting few months since the last post on this blog but here goes...

This past July my short doc film "THE FARM TEAM" had it's west coast debut in Los Angeles, CA as part of the ALL SPORTS LA FILM FESTIVAL held at Raleigh Studios. I wish I could of attended this screening and didn't come away with any award but was really just honored to have my short film play in this unique film festival held in Hollywood.

"THE FARM TEAM" was well recieved at this years MONTGOMERY FILM FESTIVAL as it WON it's second award this year by coming away with The Judges Award. The festival was held at THE CAPRI THEATER
which is a great little indie theater I saw plenty of films at during my college days. Really wish I could of made this screening but was happy to hear about the award.

For the fourth year in a row I have a short film in the ATLANTA UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL.The previous three were "The Idiot Boxer", "Hoopla" and last year with "Tibbets' Trust". This year "THE FARM TEAM" is in the fest and will play in the local shorts program at THE LANDMARK THEATER on Monroe Dr. Wednesday August 26 @ 7:00 PM. I will most likely be there for that one.

"THE FARM TEAM" will be headed to Rome, GA and the ROME INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL this September 11 @7:00 PM. It's my first time having a film play at this festival and Im looking forward to heading up Interstate 75 towards Rome, GA for this screening.

Looks like "Tibbets' Trust" will be headed to the 4th Annual "What The Hell Did I Just Watch Film Festival" being held in Seattle, WA this June 19-20. The short will play at 8:45 pm on June 19 at the Central Cinemas 1411 21st Avenue, Seattle, WA.

Yesterday received notification that "The Farm Team" will be screening this year as part of the 2009 Atlanta Film Festival happening this April 16-25. Im really excited about this one for obvious reasons. Hopefully we will have a great crowd for the screening which should be announced in the coming weeks.

So the U.S. Premiere of my short film "The Farm Team" was this past weekend in Starkville, MS as part of The Magnolia Independent Film Festival . I however wasn't able to attend due to my "day job" which is a hot commodity to have these days I guess. Anyway, turns out "The Farm Team" won for Best Short Documentary! Hell yeah! I got notification late Sunday evening about the win and still cant believe it. Ive been told the award will be in the mail soon enough. I will post a picture asap! Thanks Magnolia Indie Film Fest!!!

The Farm Team has been accepted into it's second film festival of this new year. The Sunscreen Film Festival held in St. Petersberg, FL has invited my short film to be a part of it's 2009 lineup. The festival is happening this April 29th till May the 3rd.

This Wednesday December 17th @ 7:30PM, Bobb Lovett of Double B Photography has managed to arrange as part of Park Grounds Coffee Shop's Indie Film Series a selection of Ten-X-Films short films to screen inside the coffee shop. They will in turn be followed by locally produced feature film, The Last Goodbye. I will say that I self picked the shorts and tried to mix it up between comedy and experimentation.

The Velcro Pinch!

Hey recently completed another short film for 2008 entitled "The Velcro Pinch". That makes four total for the year. Anyway, we screened it on December 4th at The Plaza Theater as part of something created by local writer and filmmaker Josh Wilcox called the Doorways Screening. The screening consisted of I believe 5 short films that were all written by Josh and given to various local filmmakers to direct except for one that Josh directed himself called 50/50. I was very surprised by the big turnout of people to show their support and I think most of them got a kick out of our goofy short film. The short features Mike Brune, Damian Dunn and Derek Mize. The supporting cast consists of Robin Spera, Jennifer Caldwell, Melissa Mason-Buck and Kenneth Buck. We had fun shooting it over two days the weekend before Thanksgiving where it got no warmer than 40 degrees the first and longest day of shooting.

The Idiot Boxer Lives...In Seattle

Found out today that our short film "The Idiot Boxer" was accepted into the 1st annual Couchfest Film Festival happening in Seattle Washington September 27. I submitted the film a few months back after seeing their call for short films. How could I not submit "The Idiot Boxer" to a film festival called Couchfest! I wish I could make it up there since all the short films are being shown at various generous peoples homes. Never been to Seattle...

Oh yeah, I sent out an email to all the guys involved in the short...Brian Didsbury who stars in film wrote me back saying "that's fucking sweet...".

New Doc "The Farm Team" Coming Soon

This past June and July I traveled to Mobile, AL to shoot a documentary about the grounds crew of a professional minor league baseball team. The team is the Mobile BayBears in the Southern League (AA) who play at Hank Aaron Stadium and are affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks. I am a former minor league baseball groundskeeper and did so for most of the 1990's for three different teams. Ever since making the career move into filmmaking I've always been interested in marrying both my interest in groundskeeping and my passion for making movies. The goal of this documentary is to inform the viewer about what it is these guys go through long before you hear the sound of "Play Ball"! It's an up close and on the field look into what it takes to maintain daily a professional playing surface and battle the always changing elements of mother nature.

Our short film "Tibbets' Trust" was recently accepted into the 5th annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival happening this August 20-24. This is also the third year in a row TEN-X-FILMS has had a short film at this festival. The Local Shorts Program is on Friday August 22 and begins at 8PM at The Plaza Theatre. Its kind of fitting that the first time anyone saw this short was at this same exact venue last November. And this very well could be it's last public appearance before it officially hits the web, again.

This week TEN-X-FILMS got together for a very

impromptu day of short filmmaking. After securing

our location by phone call from Paris, France

we decided to just go ahead and shoot something

with no script, two actors and a swimming pool.

The shoot ended up being four hours of WTF

are we shooting, WTF are we doing and WTF

does this make any sense. But WTF we got it

done, its done being edited, and it awaits all

your WTF were you guys smoking, thinking,

doing in someone's private swimming pool.

The short is still untitled but it's a cross between

Jacobs Ladder with Tim Robbins and our first

short film The Idiot Boxer.

While attending the 2008 Atlanta Film Festival I wondered to myself which of the 10-15 films or so would I really come away from seeing and say that one was the my favorite. About half way through the week long event I managed to attend an afternoon screening of "Let Them Chirp Awhile" directed by Jonathan Blitstein. I think I was intrigued by the films premise which I read in the festival's guide. Also I noticed that it was screening as 35 mm print instead of the usual dvd or beta tape used in most festivals. It sunk in during the film that yes I really liked it. And by the end I really knew that I really enjoyed it and the effort made by the filmmakers. It just seemed so different from what alot of young filmmakers are catching up to and doing these days. I later on posted my thoughts and review on the Atlanta Film Fest webpage. Cut to this morning while reading the new blog by the film's director (courtesy of myspace bulletin) and low and behold I see that he has quoted me (rushmore92) from my review about the film. I guess this is my first time being quoted on the internet. Woohoo! Here is the films myspace page followed by the films blog. Tibbets' Trust Wins 3rd Place at RiM Screening

So last night was the screening for our short film "Tibbets' Trust" which was one of 15 locally made shorts selected to be a part of the RiM films shown at this years Atlanta Film Festival . The theater was about 3/4 filled with mostly local people either involved with the films or just local film people and supporters. But there also was a fair amount of non local people I saw who hadn't seen any of these films yet. After all the films were shown they announced a 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st place winners. "Tibbets' Trust" earned a 3rd place prize for the event. Congrats to all the people who helped out and acted in the short!!! Thank you.

FYI The other 3 films that won deservedly so include 4th place going to Keith Hooker for "No Vacancy", Michael D. Friedman got 2nd place for "Sturgess Fillmore Presents Atlanta!", and 1st place going to Mavin Productions with "Done in One". Nice job guys and gals!

This past weekend TEN-X Films participated once again in the Atlanta Film Festival's Rapid i Movement. Filmmakers had two days to create a 5-7 minute short film including a person, place or thing "quintessential" to the city of Atlanta. It was a fun shoot that included a good sized cast of people willing to do or wear whatever it took to make our short film.

Recently went into Borders and stumbled upon this magazine called "The Atlantan". While thumbing my way through it I landed on page #86. For some reason I noticed in print near the bottom of the page "Tibbets' Trust" and TEN-X Films. It turned out to be a small blurb written about making a short film in two days and here are the winners from the Fall '07 Rapid i Movement and they will all be featured in the upcoming Atlanta Film Festival this April 10-18. Any press is good press they say.

Recently we filmed another interview with WPBA's local short film showcase, Atlanta Shorts. Be sure to catch the interview as well as the television debut of "Tibbets' Trust" tonight at 10:45 and tomorrow at midnight on WPBA Channel 16. This was our short film we made for the Atlanta Film Festival's Rapid i Movement where teams had to make a short film in two days and two hours. We went on to win the audience vote at The Plaza Theater screenings for Group A & D. Future screenings include being featured on Comcast Cable's OnDemand under Local and Atlanta Film Fest. RARE FOOTAGE FOUND!

Rare behind the scenes and making of footage was recently discovered in a vault at the TEN-X Films archives of the short film "Boogie Jedi Nights". In a recent attempt to better catalogue old footage in their library, the supposedly lost footage was discovered. It then was decided to unvail to the public for as long as the internet exists this making of and behind the scenes look at a true masterpiece. It can now be seen exclusively online at TEN-X Films

SIDESHOW IMPROV GUEST EDITOR!

So this coming Friday January 25 at 11:59PM I will be the "guest editor" for a new form of entertainment here in town known as SideShow Improv located at the Relapse Theater in midtown Atlanta. To briefly explain I will be editing a one hour picture and video montage where 4 improvisors will have to react and create a 3 minute scene per photo or video shown on a screen behind them on the stage. The improvisors and the audience have no clue as to what they will see throughout the show. Come on out if you can. It should be fun. Not really Ten-X Films related but Im really looking forward to attending a sneak preview tomorrow night of the new film "There Will Be Blood" by one of my favorite directors Paul Thomas Anderson. Been looking forward to this for some time now. I got lucky and got a screening pass through IMAGE to go to the preview. I love the first trailer that came out this late summer.

I will also contribute a top 13 favorite films that came out or I saw in theaters in 2007 later this week.

TEN- X FILMS 2007 YEAR IN REVIEW

JANUARY 2007
The first full week of '07 involved multiple screenings of our dogme aught six short film, "Hoopla" at the Push Push Theater in Decatur, GA. "Hoopla" was shot in the late fall of 2006 and editing began immediately after our one day shoot. These were the first local screenings of all the Dailies Project dogme aught six films.

By mid Janaury a local short film showcase was finally hitting the local Atlanta airwaves on WPA 30 and our short film "The Idiot Boxer" was featured in the very first episode of Atlanta Shorts. The tail end of the month gave us some exciting news as The Signal not only screened at The Sundance Film Festival but was also scooped up and bought for distribution by Magnolia Pictures. The Signal is sci-fi horror love story shot entirely in Atlanta, GA consisting of Atlanta filmmakers and crew including us here at TEN-X FILMS; Scott Balzer (myself) and Damian Dunn. Ben Bornert and me worked on an experimental little short film involving dopple gangers chasing themselves. This was a rainy day in late January that simply involved me shooting Ben run around in a nearby forest. We weren't exactly sure what it was we were shooting but here is what became of it...

FEBRUARY 2007
Shot a pilot for Turner Classic Movies with Mike Brune, Stacy Schmitt and GSU Prof. Ted Friedman. Looking to get some interest by the network sometime in 2008.
Wrote and shot a short film entitled "2 29 09". This was for Maxwell Guberman's Dead of Winter screening featuring films with this theme. We shot this the night of the Super Bowl in the cold on top of a very familiar parking deck. The short was merely experimental and an exercise for my DP John McCurry, the actresses Jessica Brown and Laura Slade, and myself. I think its a cool looking short and am most proud of it.

I was determined to make a commercial parody of those Cingular Phone commercials featuring two idiots and a certain Clash song. I figured we could make the same commercial shot by shot but using a more fitting song. Here is the results...

MARCH 2007
We participated in the inaugural Atlanta Film Festival Rapid i Movement March 16-18. This was a make a short film in two days contest. We shot late into that Friday night and most of Saturday afternoon in the cold. During our last shots of the weekend did we come up with our short's title..."Chicks, Man".
After dealing with some editing problems I finally scrambled to my DP's home and used his computer to edit this short. I ended up driving like a maniac back down 85 into town to barely turn the film in time on Sunday night. I like the film and think the technical side looks amazing. We didnt get into the festival this time around but Im really happy with the directors cut...

APRIL 2007
Another short film of ours "The Cavalier" premiered on local TV on Atlanta Shorts. "The Idiot Boxer" screened in Toronto Canada as part of the first annual Slackers Film Festival.

MAY 2007
We moved forward with making our next short film for the Dailies Project Catme. This was meant to be a counter attempt to dogme aught six by filmmakers. We soon began writing the idea. The process was fun going back and forth between myself and Dunn and figuring out what kind of story we wanted to tell using the Catme guidlines otherwise known as "spectigimmick". By months end casting began and we soon had our leading ladies for the film. Principal photography officially began during the casting session.

JUNE 2007
Shooting of our Catme film continued throughout the month as the short film involved a few different locations and availability from actors, the DP and ourselves was something we worked with constantly. Editing of the short began near mid June and would go through many revisions to come.

JULY 2007
Wrapped shooting our short film which was finally entitled, "Ms. Leading". Editing and more editing continues pending a late August early September screening date. Both me and Dunn helped our friend Mike Brune shoot his short film, "The Adventure" during July 30-31. Trailer for "The Adventure" here...

AUGUST 2007
Our short film "Hoopla" screened at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival. This was the 2nd straight year one of our shorts screened in this local fest. "The Idiot Boxer" screened in 2006. Late August brought us to the screening dates for our Dailies Catme film at The Push Push Theater. 2 Posters soon show up online for the short.

SEPTEMBER 2007

OCTOBER 2007
"Hoopla" screens in Athens, GA for its 2nd festival appearance at the Dixie Film Festival. The short looked mazing projected onto a large movie theater screen. Thank you digital projection!

NOVEMBER 2007

We participated in the 2nd Annual Rapid i Movement as part of the Atlanta Film Fest. Using a cast of actors/ improvisors to make a short film was one of the goals for us this time around. The second was to win the one of four audience votes and have our short film be officially accepted into the 2008 Atlanta Film Festival in April. Well guess what? We did both. The collaboration, shoot and post production (editing) went extremely well and we turned out what is now known as "Tibbets' Trust". And it will soon be available to watch on Comcast OnDemand in the Atlanta area but also will be playing during the Festival next April. Soon after our small victory a trailer for the film was online for all to see. "Chicks, Man" appears on local TV on Atlanta's short film showcase Atlanta Shorts. "Tibbets Trust" trailer...

DECEMBER 2007
Our short film "Tibbets' Trust" is available online till January 11. The cast and crew screening party went over very well as everyone seemed to enjoy the new extended version nearly doubling the original cut at now 13 minutes. Folks also seemed to get a kick out of the many bloopers and unused takes featured that evening. By the holidays got word that a new trailer and official release date for The Signal was unvailed for February 22, 2008. Signal trailer...

Last night was our second screening for the Rapid I Movement film challenge. About half the number of people were there for our repeat screening and a few cast members returned for a 2nd time. Last night was the debut of our recent short film TIBBETS' TRUST. By the sound of it the audience thoroughly enjoyed our film. The weekend of November 2-4 we participated in the Rapid I Movement Atlanta Film Festival 50 Hour Film challenge where filmmakers were given 2 days and 2 hours to make a completed short film. Our short revolves around the Tibbets Family. The name of the film is TIBBETS' TRUST and will be screening tomorrow night @ 7PM and Thursday night @ 9PM at The Plaza Theater on Ponce de Leon in Atlanta, GA. To be continued...

Our short film "HOOPLA" will be playing at the 2007 Dixie Film Festival in Athens, GA at the Carmike Cinemas 12 on Saturday October 13 between 7-9 PM as part of the Mason Dixie Films section of the festival. The Mason Dixie Films are of course short films created by Georgia filmmakers.

Also on another note "HOOPLA" has been accepted as a film by the wonderful people at IMDB. They have apparently become more and more strict on what gets actually listed on their website. So we are in the middle of shooting our Dailies Catme Film tentatively untitled. So far one official full day of shooting has been accomplished. Tomorrow we move forward and will complete 2 more scenes for Day 2 of shooting. The short film will require approx. 4 days of shooting. And then we will have till the end of July to edit, score, and tweak the finished version to screen in late July early August at The Push Push Theater. Ok so I have recently uploaded our short film "CHICKS, MAN" onto the youtube. This not the version that screened at the Rapid I Movement screening about a month ago. Ive since made some edits to make it all in all a better film than what was submitted to screen for the contest. Im happiest with this version for now. The film is kind of like a puzzle that does or doesnt need to solved. Its really not that difficult to figure out, seriously. Enjoy.

A trailer for our dogme film (dogme-aught6) "Hoopla" has finally been created and uploaded to the net. The short film was created for the Dailies Project @ Push Push Theater in Decatur, GA where filmmakers were asked to create a short film using most of the parameters of the dogme95 style of filmmaking. "CHICKS, MAN"

Recently TEN X FILMS made a short film for the 50 Hour Rapid I Movement Film Challenge for the Atlanta FIlm Festival. The weekend was a blast shooting the film going going and going. The only true snag we had was my editing program and computer having a problem getting the footage from the tapes into the computer. This slowed down my editing process tremendously but we got our film in barely on time. We did not proceed in the audience voting at the Plaza Theatre screenings but those films that did not win the "popularity" contest are all available online as one of them will be considered a wild card film and will also play at the Atlanta Film Fest this April. The short is about 7 minutes long and it takes about :30 seconds to register prior to be allowed to vote and review the films.

Last January (2006) I worked as the 2nd AD on a low budget, sci-fi, horror feature film shot locally called "The Signal". It was done by some "bad-ass" Atlanta directors, Dave Bruckner, Dan Bush, and Jacob Gentry. We also had an awesome all local Cast and Crew that kicked butt every day. This week at the Sundance Film Festival the film not only screened to some sweet reviews but was picked up for distribution by Magnolia Pictures for a nice sum. Awesome!

Hey I just found out that our little movie The Idiot Boxer still has some life in it. Ive copied and pasted the following from an email I received today from Atlanta PBS Station 30. I submitted the film way earlier this year to a local short film program they were looking to start sometime this winter. The guy whom I sent it too liked it and even saw it this summer at another screening at Push Push Theatre and thought it was funny. Well once again good job everyone. Be sure to look for yourselves on cable come this Jan - March. Oh and another thing...the film was submitted to a small festival in Toronto, CANADA called "The Slacker Film Fest". We could be going international with this, eh. Hope all is well Merry Christmas and all that jazz.

"THE CAVALIER" is our latest short film. It was made as part of the Atlanta Film Colloquium. A screening was recently held 4-22-06 at Lab 601 in Atlanta, GA. Six "suspenseful" films were shown in which our film was voted Best Editing, Best Guerilla Filmmaking, and Best Relief of Pressure. For more info visit:

THE IDIOT BOXER (2005)

Just wanted to add the poster of our film "THE IDIOT BOXER". This 5:00 minute short was directed by both Damian Dunn and myself Scott Balzer. The film is basically about two couch potato idiots who cant find anything good on television. Since being completed in October of 2005 it has gone on to be accepted into the Southern Fried Film Festival '06 (Augusta, GA) , The Highway 5 Film Festival '06 (Marietta, GA) , and The Macon Film Festival '06 (Macon, GA ). We are still pending acceptances into a few other local and non local film festivals across the state and the country. Also, the film will be shown locally in the Macon, GA area on local public access television channel WCOX 15 beginning sometime this May '06. The station hosts a program entitled Indie Showcase.
